DENVER CANCELS EVERYTHING!

Democratic Convention stumbles in Democratic fashion;
Update: Howard Dean responds
posted at 12:50 pm on July 6, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

The woes of the DNC continue in Denver, and even the New York Times has taken notice. In some ways, it provides an excellent manifestation of Democratic governance. Underfunded, overspent, and chock-full of unrealistic mandates, the entire enterprise appears on the brink of failure — and Team Obama has six weeks to attempt a rescue:
Some of the Democratic missteps started soon after planning for the event began. The Democratic National Convention Committee decided not to take cheap office space and instead rented top-quality offices in downtown Denver at $100,000 a month, only to need less than half the space, which it then filled with rental furniture at $50,000 a month. And in a costly misstep, the Denver host committee, early on, told corporate donors that their contributions were not tax-deductible, rather than to encourage donations by saying that the tax-exempt application was pending and expected to be approved.

CLICK HERE TO FINISHING READING ABOUT THE DENVER SHIT SHOW…and we thought Mayor Menino and the Boston Democratic Convention Committee made a mess of things - HA you gotta another thing comin’!

Does anyone even give a shit anymore….BOOM BOOM OBAMA?

So hows the RNC doing???

Vice President Candidates!

Well it’s amazing…Here it is!
Just fresh off the press - Plucked this off Human Events - THANK YOU!

Interesting take on the VP race…as if it really matters after the wonderful fireworks set off by the douchebags in Iran!

ENPR: Ranking Vice Presidential Contenders
by Robert Novak and Timothy P. Carney
Posted: 07/09/2008

Presidential Running Mates: A look at the vice presidential prospects in both parties in a rough order of how their chances rank:

Democratic:
1. Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine: The logical choice is a moderate Southern governor, and Kaine is the only one who fits that description. His negatives are multiple: only been governor for two and one-half years, with few accomplishments; an absolutely zero profile nationally with low charisma to match; hard to imagine him as President of the United States. But he’s popular in Virginia, which hasn’t been carried by a Democrat for president since ‘64, but would be possible with Kaine on the ballot.

2. Sen. Joseph Biden (Del.): He is qualified to be President, and gives foreign policy expertise to Obama. He adds experience and age to the ticket, is a Catholic and was impressive as an unsuccessful presidential candidate (much better than in his disastrous ‘88 run). The downside is that he talks too much, but who listens to vice presidential candidates anyway?

3. Sen. Evan Bayh (Ind.): He adds moderation and is presentable as a future President. But a fellow senator from the neighboring state of Indiana doesn’t add much balance. If he could really bring Indiana into the Democratic fold, it would be worth putting him on the ticket. But that’s a stretch.

4. Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell: He is very able and very experienced, a ticket-balancer: age 64, Jewish, Clinton supporter and pins down a state that Democrats must win to elect a president. The problem is that he just doesn’t look or sound much like a president.

5. Al Gore: Back again! We don’t think he would do it, but it’s possible. The question: Does he drive off more independents and Republicans than he attracts?

6. Sen. Bob Casey Jr. (Pa.): He’s only 48 years old and elected to the Senate just in 2006, so it doesn’t make much sense to have two young first-term Senators on the ticket. Also, he would be an insult to his blood enemy, Rendell. But otherwise he’s a ticket-balancer: Catholic, pro-life, pro-gun. He endeared himself to Obama campaigning against the Rendell organization in Pennsylvania.

7. Sam Nunn: The former senator hasn’t run office since ‘92, so it’s doubtful how much he would help in the probably unwinnable state of Georgia, and he would be 71 years old when elected. He is still anathema to the gay community for his opposition to “don’t say, don’t tell”. Nevertheless, his national security experience makes him attractive to some party insiders.

8. Sen. Hillary Clinton (N.Y): Immensely improbable if only because it brings Bill Clinton back into the picture.

Republican:
1. Mitt Romney: He’s on top of the picture with backing from Bush White House, many conservatives and money-raisers. The negatives are that he still is not first on McCain’s dance card and never has polled well nationally.

2. Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty: McCain likes him, and he is one of the few eligible GOP governors. But it’s hard to see what he brings to the table. He’s not considered very conservative, and he can’t carry Minnesota for the ticket.

3. Rob Portman: He looked much stronger a month ago. But now his background as a Bush Cabinet official is hurting him. Also, polls show his background as congressman from Cincinnati does not help him much in the rest of Ohio. Still, he is an extremely able, attractive conservative.

4. Florida Gov. Charlie Crist: He might seem the most improbable president since Chester Arthur. But McCain likes him, and he owes him big for his endorsement that may have decided the Florida primary—and the nomination. He erased one question mark last week when he announced he was getting married.

5. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal: The 36-year-old first-year governor always was a long shot, but the steam went out of his balloon when he promised state legislators he would sign their pay raise (Mistake No. 1) and then vetoed the bill (Mistake No. 2). Still a favorite of many conservatives.

6. Sen. John Thune (S.D.): A late starter, who is still revered in party circles as the man who defeated Tom Daschle in 2004. But he is an earmarker, and running with anti-earmark McCain would be difficult.

Personally, since I’m some sort of a blend of demopublicgreen thing….and at this stage of the fright fest does anything really matter???
Okay so go with Biden Obama…its a nice square off to a MckillerCain and Mittens Romney…

Thats my two cents…this was a nice sidetrack given I’m absolutly pissed at the Bush administrations staged Iranian Missle test today.

What could possibly be next?!?!
Stayed tuned as the Democratic Convention may be chock full of Bomb Threats, assassination attempts, and Bush and Clinton admininstation meanderings

Unite For Change

Democratic Conventtion 2008 Denver

Yes let’s unite – lets all have one great hugenormous mofo of a democratic spoonfest with each other!

Unite for change is one hell of a slogan…Record numbers turned out for the primaries…The cast of doubt is in and it says can Obama deliver us from the Evil empire we have all been held hostage by for close to eight gut wrenching years or is the party weakened by him being the first candidate of color who; in all likelihood, is going to be saddled with the baggage of the HRC as a running mate if for no other reason but to increase the odds to defeat the war economy fulfillment requirement presidential candidate for the republicans in McCain.

So where do YOU come down on this people?

The continued message of Change is wonderful it attaches hope to the candidate – a hope that things will change – do ALL Americans want this ambiguous change? What is this CHANGE – what does it entail outside of the paradigm shift and sea change from the previous status quo we have grown comfortably numb with?

Call it in the air…So just what is it we are calling it for – heads or tails? What is at risk? What’s to gain? IS that so much to ask – some friggin details?

YEAH YEAH – Hands in the air pump the fist woo hoo CHANGE yeah CHANGE IS GOOD?

Who says it’s a change for the better and how will we know without calling it in the air – Heads or Tails?

Let’s unite before the republicans all fornicate us….

Policy over Party makes more sense every day – doesn’t it?

Let’s all scratch our heads while spooning and wonder just what the hell is that poking us in the behind….yep - it’s the Republicans sticking it up our ass hard and fast – Ouch gosh oh gee that’s starting to hurt…UNITE!

BTW: Hotel Rooms are GONE - So now what are you going to do? Remember Boston?

OBAMA vs McCain

US Citizens begin to Migrate…

Well, it has been sometime since I have felt the nudge in me to Blog about the election.

Thank god HRC is done lollygagging and realized that her power mongering herd of Terry, Billy Boy and the like were just plain out of skullduggery and trickery or they all just may have wanted to go out and shoot a round of golf or relax on a 300 foot yacht in the tropics - Who knows?

I for one think Hil will resurface and do great harm to the Democratic party prior to the convention - I’m sure there is one last breath of self important deliverance left in her troupe.

Is it unfortunate that McCain will win this election by default? We all have some soul searching to do. Is there a leader among them or us able to cultivate a grass roots revolution of sorts or is one already in the making?

We spend billions on the fight to protect the oil fields while the Bush and Bin Laden families nest eggs grow by leaps and bounds.

Prices for everything are skyrocketing.

The US dollar is at the weakest of my lifetime.

United States Citizens - We are all mongrels and are about to become the worlds newest immigrants. Watch our general population flee to Ireland, Europe and Asia to put our hard work and genius into another economy - all hail the largest migration or should I say retreat from the US in our history.

Everyday, I hear sad stories from usually light hearted, hard working and once prosperous friends and business acquaintances - there is a general tone of dismay as our country frustrates us in its failure to launch.

What was once a inspiration for me as turned into a wasteland of fiber and bandwidth - the site Obama has launched is Fight the Smears - Are we in a schoolyard or playground here, middle or elementary….this is ridiculous ARE ANY OF THE CANDIDATES dealing in the same realities that we are?

Hello anyone out there???

DEMCON WATCH!

Filed under: Anything Goes — DNC 2008 @ 6:18 pm

Add to Technorati Favorites

Love this Blog - Matt you are a true dedicated spirit to the art of blogging and keeping the court of public awareness open for business. Thank you.

We particularly admire the Obama Tracker!
Imagine the ridiculousness going on here…the Denver Convention is 0ver 10 million short in its fundraising efforts…now isn’t that something?
< This was posted this evening on DemCon....Thanks for the information gathering !

The Denver Host Committee continues to lag in its convention fund-raising efforts, missing a Monday goal of raising $40.6 million, falling short by almost $11 million. The committee reported raising $29 million at the close of business on Monday, a disappointing showing for a committee that had promised to have more in the bank by now. - NY Times

Some of the problems have nothing to do with the late-decided primary:
Rick Ridder, a Denver-based Democratic strategist who has helped the city’s convention efforts, said the shortfall is a significant concern.

“Without a doubt, there was tentativeness on the part of a lot of major companies because they didn’t know who the nominee was going to be,” Ridder said. “And frankly, Denver is not a major corporate center. Many of the corporations who contributed to Boston (site of the party’s 2004 convention) just haven’t seen advantages to coming here.” - AP

But Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper certainly isn’t giving up. He was in Kansas City recently:

He had less than an hour to be at The Capital Grille to meet with five high-powered movers and shakers and either extract money from them for the Democratic National Convention or get them to hook him up with other potential donors. The clock was already ticking. This trip - the last fundraising effort before the Denver 2008 Host Committee hits its Monday deadline to raise $40.6 million - would be quick. Essentially 24 hours of meetings stacked upon meetings stacked upon meeting.
And the outcome?

“They liked me. This was a successful evening. They’re all going to work for our success. One guy will write a check,” Hickenlooper said. “I don’t know yet, but he gave me his card and said, ‘Send me your information and I’ll write you a check.’ So whether that’s $25,000 or $50,000 - he’s a fairly small restaurant owner - so I don’t know if it will be really big dollars, maybe $5,000 or $10,000.”

Now this is seriously getting way too out of hand…whats next pan handling on the corner “Will work for Convention Funding” - Come on Mayor do we really need a lesson in poor party planning ?

Last note: Al Gore finally decide to support Obama tonight! Must be the Clintons at work for that VP nomination….
gee thanks Al…

Obama - NH is only the start!

NH Primary - IT’s ALL OVER!

Add to Technorati Favorites

Where does one go to derive the ammunition to support the candidate they want to win the election? Is it all one Zeitgeist - The Movie” conspiracy theorization after another? I get so confused - I don’t know what to believe - so I’m a sucker and go with my heart ( we all know the rapture / pain that mind set can deliver…) the passion - the message - the one who will in fact make CHANGE a reality or at least has convinced me to give him a shot at it…O B A M A.

I’m not a NH voter but I do know many of them; on this the eve of the primary and leading up to it I have been barraged with calls from various campaigns asking me to volunteer time and energy - Well I’m doing that right now to show support of the candidate I endorse!

I really have supported only one candidate and have only contributed to one campaign…I urge all my voting friends ( I have many who I can’t seem to motivate to get out and vote) to head into the polls tomorrow and select Barack Obama. I have had so many people ask me “What is he going to do?”, What type of changes is he going to make?”, What is all this talk of change?” and so on…have faith and hang in there - we let Bush go on and on for way too long when he and his crime boss VP should have been prosecuted and impeached on any number of occasions - so give OBAMA a chance - let’s see what he’s got!

The arguments are many and of course politics is a funny sort of thing; just when you think you may have it figured out a slow hanging curve confounds you to no end - strike three…

This time around it is clear - the revolution is now and change is on the minds of many, many who have not bothered to vote or have miscast votes in the past.

It is Obama time people.

The Missing Class; many may remember this situation referred to as the working poor…barely enough to get by, not enough to qualify for various subsidies or benefits and certainly never enough to generate any savings to speak of - if anyone can alleviate the pressure of this situation its the foresight minded Obama.

We have suffered long enough with an arrogant ignorant leader and we certainly don’t need another Clinton cabinet fueled by politically and financially motivated favors. We all love Dennis but ..hmmm he’s just not electable enough for the masses ( he does get some major coolness points for taking the stage with Ani DiFranco at a recent concert held in Boston though)

It’s truly time people - do you feel it?

Feel it! Get out and VOTE - Vote Smart - Vote Obama!

Obama has made the soil fertile enough to plant a garden that will grow beyond our wildest of dreams!

Obama happens!

Hillary..Helloooo

Add to Technorati Favorites

Okay folks..LADIES HELLO?

This is absurdness to the highest degree…Really? NAH not at all!

Change- Ideas- and an enormous reduction in the luggage filled with favors and promises department to be carried to the oval office upon election.

We know Billy boy would be the catalyst behind the Clinton Presidency - While Clinton did well when he was in office ( wink wink) Do we really want the US to speak and point to the Bush and Clinton families as the catalyst for our country we hung our hats on for so so many years…I HOPE NOT! I saw Live Free or Die Hard - we are about as close to the real deal Fire Sale happening as ever before…you know its true..go ahead stick your head back in the sand..nice right.

God Bless the people who actually decided this year is the year we are finally going to vote - the year we are as mad as hell and we are not going to take it anymore..RISE UP, RISE UP - RISE and shine and give Barack your glory glory…Corny YES!

So with Barack hammering Iowa will he pull it out in NH - hmmm

Don’t be surprised by a strong outcome for Edwards.

I took a break from this blog because my energy level to respond to the ignorance of our nation and the people was exhausting me. Where are the rebels the free thinkers, the leaders of the next revolution..Hello is anybody out there that has truly had enough of all of this yet?

RON PAUL

ROCKING in The Free World!

Add to Technorati Favorites

Ron Paul is rolling along; is he an Independent, liberal, conservative, Republican, Democrat or still a Libertarian? Who cares - its the message right? Policy before Party -RIGHT?

He seems to stand and work for positice change ( policy over party). His small but growing grassroots campaign is gaining momentum. His prowess in the first debate made him a force to be considered for all parties!

As per usual volunteerism and getting in on the lastest politico craze etc is what each candidate strives for - Hell everyone loves the underdog…right?

OKay with the Hilary - Bill - Terry - machine in full effect - she’s all but is sitting in the same chair her hubby planted himself in. Right?

Is this Ron Paul for real? Can he make it happen - will enough people hear his voice and pay attention? Recently, he got some nice TV coverage in the Granite State
One thing is for sure Ron Paul has a passion and strong, vocal staff behind him.

Recons back to the 2004 DNC when the Boston host committee was built on strong passionate types like Terry McAullife, Fred Seigel, Julie Burns, Alan Leventhal, David Passafara, Micho Spring and many more!

Keep working the Granite State Ron!

I’ll Get to the Damn Debate Later…

After getting aggravated with ” the event that will not be mentioned” - A change of pace attributed to clever anger management drives this post.

There are many resources surrounding the Democratic Convention past and present. Took the time to review the edges of the top Google searches surrounding it and yawn -zzzzzzzzzz - utilizing my well honed intuitive search skill sets a number of relaventant , irrelevant and sideways searches were discovered - but firstand foremost!

Lets take a look at what the Dems site is all about and well more yawn…sigh how they are presenting themselves to the World!
Hmm GREAT OVERVIEW - honest leadership & open government, lots of claims about energy independence and healthcare, education blah blah… Come on make it a PARTY you want to join in on - ” tell us some of those stories for the flies the the walls - you gottta sell it papi!!.

Okay up next! Mega -wikepedia results - Wikepedia… hmm always be a bit suspect of an organicly nourished information database.

What’s more interesting is the online resource 2004DNC - yep it’s the date of the 2004 Convention held in Boston as well as the launch year of this online convention and political resource while the site is deep in content for the 2004 convention it also has the latest and up to date information on 2008 convention and election, the site archives so much it must be over 1000pages deep, everything fromVolunteerism ( actually this was one of the things that really got the National Party’s attention), 2004 Committee members, nationally, local, supporters and even lists all candidates Repulican and Democrat, up to date election poll results and linkage to a knowledge base as large as GWU! There is quite a back story on this site known as the Rogue Website by Boston Media and The Democratic Party

08dnc.com A clear total rip of 2004dnc - 2004dnc was first in the world to create a for profit website centered aroud a political convention - the idea is genius …but again another story. 08dnc is “The Ultimate Independent Guide to the 2008 Democratic National Conventionand the - take a deep breath…Center of the Universe for 2008 Denver’s Democratic National Convention- sigh …. basically a tourist site for the convention…not a great long term resource but will do fine for Denver!

2008 Democratic Convention Watch- demconwatch.com…Tracks news about the Democratic Convention in Denver…This is great - simple and very informative!

Now lo and behold the Democratic Convention Guide gets two results in Google Top ten! - The little blog is getting found!

Now feeling a lot better I can better focus on the Hilary stomping debacle this week…and to one of their own they deliver such deliberate and horrific acts of dismantlement…Hilary seemingly is the only one ready for the White House or is she just another puppet ina pants suit?

Johnny boy Edwards is gosh darn pissed!

Add to Technorati Favorites

Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards unleashed on our beloved front-runner Sen. Hilly Baby, D-N.Y., Friday, calling her a “corporate Democrat,” he compared top Clinton campaign strategist Mark Penn to former Bush aide Karl Rove and told all of Penn’s ties to Blackwater USA, the embattled private firm of military contractors accused by the Iraqi government of firing upon and killing 11 unarmed Iraqi civilians last month. Is that playing nice - nice?

“Bush has been a perfect example of cronyism because Blackwater has given hundreds of thousands of dollars to Republicans and to President Bush,” Edwards said in an interview with the Associated Press while campaigning in Iowa. “I also saw this morning that Sen. Clinton’s primary adviser, Mark Penn, who is like her Karl Rove — his firm is representing Blackwater.”

YIKES ! WHoa…anyone surprised by this??

In addition to his role as a top campaign consultant to the Clinton campaign, Mark Penn is the worldwide president and CEO of Burson-Marsteller. The firm’s lobbying subsidiary BKSH helped Blackwater’s top executive, Erik Prince, prepare for his congressional testimony this week.

Penn could not be reached for comment, but Burson-Marsteller spokesman Paul Cordasco said in a statement that “through a personal relationship, BKSH, a subsidiary of Burson-Marsteller, helped Blackwater prepare for their recent hearing before Congress. With the hearing over, BKSH’s temporary engagement has ended.”

The Clinton campaign - hello Clinton campaign - Helloooo - of course the Clinton Campaign had NO COMMENT! -

Duval Patrick MA Governor Makes bad choices
Duval…”Shame Shame Shame on the people of MA ” - Right? - We voted in a world class snake oil salesman!

How many times are we to expect apologies from Slick Patrick for really bad decisions? We have already seen too many times where our Governor has made choices that are far less than stellar. Are we to suspect that Patrick is hitting the meds? These choices on time and money the good people of MA have bestowed upon Cadilaac King Patrick are unerving. How dare he be so pompous?

Mitt BEST Candidate for the Republican Swagger Party

Come on this is too easy …are the Democrats going to be able to Kick Romney around as the Republican Party front runner for the 2008 Presidential Election
For the first time since the presidential election of 2000, Republicans are engaged in a heated competition to see who will emerge as the party’s presidential nominee in 2008. So far, the race has taken some surprising turns, as we hear from VOA National correspondent Jim Malone.
Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney won a test vote at the conservative conference in Washington, finishing ahead of Giuliani, Kansas Senator Sam Brownback and McCain.

“Now is the time, this is the place, for us to lead a great coalition of strength for our families, for our future, for America,” he said. “God Bless the United States of America!”
YEAH RIGHT! MORMONS ROCK THE VOTE!!!

Romney is one of several candidates hoping to sharpen their appeal to conservative voters even though he has flipflopped and flipped over and over. As we all know the nut job conservative party pledgers make up the most significant bloc of support within the Republican Party - oh Goody!

Obama Defends Edwards, Dean Denounces Coulter

DNC Chair Howard Dean denounced Ann Coulter
, suggesting there was no room in politics for such “vile rhetoric,” except perhaps from the people who work in the kitchens of those swanky hotels.

Meanwhile, Barack Obama said he wouldn’t allow campaign politics to get in the way of his defending Edwards, stating, “John Edwards is not gay, though he did look at me sort of funny once in a Senate chamber men’s room. I am aware of the rumors surrounding Hillary over the years, not that I believe them, but I’ve never heard a thing about John. Kucinich is the one I wouldn’t turn my back on, if you know what I mean.”

After the initial shock and a few hours crying into his puffy pink pillow, the Breck Girl has decided to turn adversity into opportunity. For all of you who feel like you must DO SOMETHING about what that evil, sexless woman did to Johnny, you can give him money.

After this we need to examine the platform of “Policy over Party” candidate Bobby Gzus.

Bobby Gzus platform is forthcoming and will speak to the people who are tired of all the strings attatched…Come on.. it is time for a new platform to be nurtured that properly represents the majority of the people in United States of America….Our voices will be heard!

Bill Clinton Global Intiative
2006 Commitments - Climate
Virgin’s $3 bill. commitment to renewable energy initiatives

* Focus Area: Climate
* Sub Focus: Energy
* Commitment By: Virgin Group of Companies,
* First Year Cost: $200,000,000
* Total Estimated Value: $3,000,000,000
* Commitment Duration: 10 years

Objective:

Sir Richard Branson and the Virgin Group believe that all businesses, especially those involved in transportation, energy and particularly fossil fuels such as coal must be at the forefront of developing environmentally friendly business strategies with a focus on replacing traditional energy with energy coming from renewable sources.
Commitment Announcement:

To demonstrate this we are committing that all future proceeds to the Virgin Group (dividends, realisations and share sales) from our transportation interests (airlines and trains) will be invested into renewable energy initiatives both within these transportation companies and further investments in new biofuel R & D production, distribution and other projects to tackle emissions related to global warming. We currently estimate this commitment to be $3 billion over the next ten years.

As our first significant demonstration of this we recently launched Virgin Fuels. A unique new investment vehicle for a series of international renewable energy investments by the Virgin Group with an early focus on bio-fuels (rather than other alternative energy sources or industrial power generation). The scope of the Company’s investment strategy will also include research and development of new bio-fuels suitable for both ground transportation and aviation.

Virgin Fuels has an initial funding commitment from the Virgin Group of up to $400 million over three years for biofuel investment and R & D in the field of new biofuels for both ground transport and aviation.

Virgin Fuels is delighted to announce its first investment in the sector against this $3 billion commitment with an investment in Cilion, Inc., headquartered in Goshen, California. Cilion was formed in June 2006 to build and operate ethanol plants that will be cheaper and greener than standard corn–to–ethanol plants, as they substantially reduce the need for fossil fuels in ethanol production. Cilion plans to build seven plants by 2009 with a total of 440 million gallons per year capacity. The first three plants are expected to be in California.

Virgin Fuels led the current investment round in Cilion, which has now raised over $200 million in two financing rounds. The current round includes the Yucaipa Companies and the founding investors, including Khosla Ventures - a leading venture capital firm, and Western Milling - one of the largest grain handling and processing groups in the US and the largest on the West Coast.
Background:

Virgin has always worked hard to minimise our environmental impact at every level of our businesses - from operating the youngest fleet of Aircraft of an airline flying anywhere in the world today and the latest fuel-efficient Airbus 340 and Boeing 737 aircraft in our airlines - down to printing double-sided on recycled paper and using fair-trade coffee in our offices. This belief stretches across all of the companies comprising the Virgin Group. Virgin is already utilising a host of environmentally benign technologies including regenerative braking on its electric trains which put 17% of the electricity they use back in to the National Grid of the UK, making them the most energy efficient long distance trains in the world. In addition the company is switching its diesel trains to run on a biofuel mix, as well as funding the world’s most fuel efficient experimental high altitude jet, the Virgin Atlantic Global Flyer. At Virgin we are even looking beyond our atmosphere ensuring that Virgin Galactic’s newly designed spacecrafts produce vastly fewer emissions per flight than any previous space launch system and are as environmentally benign as possible in terms of the content of those emissions.

Importantly, as a transportation company owner, we should be at the forefront of developing new energy sources. This view was further supported and influenced through discussions with like-minded people such as Al Gore, Vinod Khosla (from Khosla Ventures), Ted Turner and Bill Clinton.

Virgin Fuels is just the first step in delivering Sir Richard’s renewable energy strategy. We are also establishing an Environmental Trust in order to invest in future ideas to decrease global warming, many of which will have unique social and environmental benefits.
Point of Contact:

Shai Weiss,CEO,Virgin Fuels; Jean Oelwang,Managing Director,Virgin Unite; Will Whitehorn,Media Enquiries,Virgin Group
Geographic Scope:

North America, Europe
Anticipated Launch:

9/20/2006
Milestones and Key Actions:

First Milestone: September 10, 2006 - Launch of Virgin Fuels and first investment (as outlined above)

Summary of Activity:
Announcement of the launch of Virgin Fuels, the $400m commitment over three years and the initial investment as per the note above.
Partnership Opportunities:

Virgin Group would welcome potential partners that are interested in future investments in the area of renewable energy.

DENVER - WHY NOT!

DENVER 2008 DNC

Denver is excited about the possibility of hosting the 2008 Democratic National Convention. This website was created by citizens who could not wait to show their
support of Denver’s DNC bid and are ready to welcome Democrats from across the country. Please contact your Democratic representatives and express your support for holding the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Why Denver? Well, there are many great answers to that question. Here are just a few: Denver is a vibrant, centrally located, city with the positive attitude and modern facilities for a successful Democratic National Convention. The political climate in Denver is ripe for the DNC. And, as if that wasn’t enough, Denver is located just East of one of our nation’s playgrounds — the Rocky Mountains! (you’ll want to plan an extra few days to enjoy it)

It’s time for the DNC to head West again.
Let’s make 2008 the 100-year anniversary for a Denver-hosted DNC.

Akaka, 10 Other Senators, Support Kerry/Feingold’s Amendment

So, we know Friday that 13 Senators voted for a firm timetable of withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq. Many of us also saw a wonderful performance by Senator Russ Feingold on Meet The Press, where he pointed out the fact that these 13 Senators stand strong with the majority of the U.S. public, who also support a firm timetable of withdrawl. Certainly it seems that the leaders of Iraq want us to go, too. Now we know our own military leaders were proposing pretty much the same thing to the Bush administration but were ignored. How frustrating is all this? How much more do we need to know? Where was the rest of the Senate?

Personally, I’m turning my energies towards expressing gratitude to those 13 Senators who are doing the right thing with their vote last Friday. I’ve specifically choosen to send a small donation to Senator Dan Akaka, as he is facing a reverse Leiberman/Lamont situation with a DLC/D-in-name-only/pro-Bush/pro-war Ed Case in a primary this September.

I’ve been saying all along that if as much ink were spent protecting a good incumbent like Akaka, we’d be doing a very good thing.

More St. Paul notes

It looks like the DNC may be focusing on the St. Paul Xcel Energy Center as the best choice for a Minneapolis/St. Paul convention:
The Democratic National Committee staffers scoping out the Twin Cities were reportedly very impressed with their visit to the Twin Cities — particularly the Xcel Energy Center.

One tour guide told the Scoop that it wouldn’t hurt if you started thinking now about alternate commuting plans for the last week of August if you expect to be working in downtown St. Paul in 2008.
This may make sense. The Xcel Center is 10 years newer than the Target Center in Minneapolis, has more luxury boxes, and is right next to a convention center for use by the media.

The article also notes: “Some of the selection committee couldn’t make this trip and will be visiting for a much-less heralded reconnaissance mission later this summer”

ALL BETS ON….2008 US Presidential Election

Betting on thepresidential election 2008

Good value with Pinnacle Sports US Presidential props

Sports betting giant Pinnacle Sports has some very interesting proposition options for the 2008 United States presidential election. No partisan jokes please, but Hillary Clinton looks like a live dog at +136 to capture the Democratic Party nomination.

Most polls have the only other current contenders as John Kerry and Al Gore, the last two Democratic nominees. First of all, the fact that each lost general elections is a major factor going against Kerry and Gore. The Democratic voter has a long history of “one and done” when it comes to party nominees.

Clintonis of course the wife of well-liked ex-President Bill Clinton. Having her popular husband on the campaign trail is a huge advantage, not to mention being able to tap into Bill’s political savvy will prove invaluable.

More than two years removed from the Presidential election, there is certainly a lot that can and will happen. However in the proverbial caveat of “if the primaries and caucuses were currently taking place” Hillary Clinton would be a lock. Fickle American public and all, betting on Hillary at +136 is a good investment.

IMPEACH BUSH NOW!

IMPEACH BUSH NOW Democratic Convention Guide

Impeach Bush / End the War

The movement to impeach President Bush and VP Dick Cheney gained momentum with the emergence of the Downing Street Memo, a document that revealed to the world what British officials understood long before the 2003 invasion began: that the Bush Administration was committed to invading Iraq and would willingly promote or accept intelligence that was manipulated to assist their efforts. With new revelations that the Bush Administration authorized surveillance operations on US citizens without court approval, the case for impeachment has become overwhelming.

Articles of Impeachment
The Center for Constitutional Rights, America’s leading institution of constitutional scholarship, has developed a legal case for the impeachment of George W Bush. Now, in collaboration with Melville House Books and progressives across the U.S., they are sponsoring a “National Teach-In” to share their case, what’s at stake, and what impeachment means for every American. Visit articlesofimpeachment.net to learn how you can participate, join or host your own teach-in.

Democrats: Liberals, centrists still battling

Clarion Opinion on congressional electionsJune 25, 2006

As the 2006 midterm congressional elections approach, Republican President George W. Bush’s popularity in the polls has reached historic lows.

Gas prices are at historic highs. Public health care is in crisis. The war in Iraq has become a quagmire.

In Congress, the Jack Abramoff scandal and the fall of former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay are at the top of a stack of scandals that has sullied many GOP incumbents and a few Democrats as well.

The Republican Party - now in control of the U.S. House, U.S. Senate and the White House - looks as politically vulnerable as it has ever been in the battle for midterm congressional seats later this year.

The polls show Democrats in a position to gain significant ground in the midterm congressional elections.

Even more intriguing for Democrats is the prospect of the 2008 presidential election. Given the problems that confront the country and Bush’s plunge in the polls, Democratic Party operatives are salivating over a chance to heap the blame for Bush-era problems on the back of the 2008 Republican nominee.

With runaway government spending, growth in government bureaucracies and the lack of a plausible exit strategy from Iraq now tied around the neck of the Bush White House, it would seem that happy days are here again for the Democrats.

Yet despite that backdrop, Democrats are - as usual, it seems - fighting among themselves over the party’s position on the war in Iraq, energy policies, and social issues like gay marriage.

Democrats need to make the next two election cycles a referendum on the prosecution of the war in Iraq and about whether the Republicans have been good and competent stewards of taxpayer funds during this long period of holding absolute sway over the federal government.

There is great infighting among Republicans from the conservative and moderate wings of the party over social issues like abortion and gay marriage and the politically connected issues of appointing federal judges who reflect conservative views on those wedge issues.

For their part, Democrats face an internal battle between the more liberal members of their party for whom abortion and gay rights are bedrock issues and party centrists who want to avoid polarizing issues and concentrate on making the war, the economy and energy prices the key campaign issues.

Democrats will need a net gain of 15 House seats and six Senate seats in the midterm elections to claim majorities.

The outcome of the midterm elections will serve as a barometer of whether voters in both “red” and “blue” states respond better to moderate Republicans or centrist Democrats or to liberal Democrats and conservative Republicans.

Both parties will spend the next two years leading up to the 2008 presidential showdown honing their party’s message to suit what the voters indicate that they want.

Recent history suggests that another liberal/conservative confrontation awaits the nation in November 2008.
